PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the responsiveness and accuracy for adjusting the tensile force applied to a needle thread by a thread tension mechanism by dividingly disposing the thread tension mechanism and a driving actuator in a front frame and a rear frame of a sewing machine arm respectively and securing a pushing force transmission property by a driving force transmitting member connecting the thread tension mechanism to the driving actuator. SOLUTION: This thread tension device for a sewing machine is provided with the thread tension mechanism 11 disposed in the front frame 4a of the arm 4 and applying the tensile force to a needle thread by a pair of thread tension disks 22 and 23, a thread tension solenoid 12 disposed in the rear frame 4b in the opposite side of the front frame 4a disposed with the thread tension mechanism 11 and changing the intensity of the tensile force to be applied to the needle thread by the thread tension mechanism 11, and a pushing force transmitting member 13 transmitting the driving force of the thread tension solenoid 12 to the thread tension mechanism 11. This thread tension device for the sewing machine supports the pushing force transmitting member 13 by a linear ball bush type bearing 14 press-fitted in a large-diameter hole part 4d of a support frame 4c.
