A process for preparing 2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-1-(3-methoxyphenyl)cyclohexanol with high stereoselectivity and high yield by reacting 2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-cyclohexanone in a Grignard reaction with a Grignard compound of 3-bromoanisole in a suitable solvent and in the presence of an inorganic lithium salt and an alpha,omega-dialkoxyalkane.
