<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus suppressing variation in color hue and scattering to the minimum and improving usability. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a transfer member transferring a visual image on an image carrier to recording material, a transfer bias applying means applying transfer bias to the transfer member, a control means determining output of the transfer bias applying means in image formation by detecting resistance in the transfer member in non-image formation and a detecting means detecting the type of the recording material.
