<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which so-called throughput can be improved by effectively using the length of an intermediate transfer belt and also controlling the timing of the adjustment of stored toner so that images are consecutively formed, thereby realizing efficient image formation. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: four developing cartridges storing black (K) toner for developing electrostatic latent images on a photoreceptor drum; and the intermediate transfer belt for forming an image by receiving and transferring the toner images on the photoreceptor drum onto recording paper while rotating endlessly. The intermediate transfer belt is set to the length including an area T between the trailing end of the A4-size recording paper on which the toner images are transferred and the leading end of the subsequent one, in order to ensure the time needed for a developing cartridge switching operation. According to the size of the sheet of recording paper for the image formation or the number of the sheets, the CPU of the engine control part controls developing cartridge switching control. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
