<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste treatment method by which the step of removing a hydrogen chloride gas originating from plastic components in wastes and the step of decomposing the gas can be continuously performed. <P>SOLUTION: The waste treatment apparatus is used which is provided with an oil immersion chamber 111 which performs the step of removing chlorine components originating from a vinyl chloride resin in shredder dust 118 as a hydrogen chloride gas and a steam contact reaction chamber 114 which performs the step of decomposing the waste plastic component after the removal step. The oil immersion chamber 111 and the steam contact reaction chamber 114, between which partitions 104 and 105 which serve as partitions for the catalyst addition chamber 112 and a preheating chamber 113 intervene, are allowed to communicate with each other while preheating is continued with a heater 139.
