PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in a paper sheet medium delivery mechanism adapted to deliver the uppermost one of paper sheet media stacked on a stage by a pickup roller, wherein the sheet media cannot be separated one by one surely in some cases, not only delivery failure but also skewing is caused due to feeding abnormality, resulting in the occurrence of a jam or multi-feeding. SOLUTION: The pickup roller is supported to freely rotate normally and in the reverse direction, a back wall is disposed to form a clearance gap up to the trailing end of the paper sheet media stacked on the stage, the pickup roller is rotated in the reverse direction to the normal rotation in the delivery direction, thereby moving the medium until the trailing end of the uppermost paper sheet medium abuts on the back wall, and further slacking the same so that the uppermost paper sheet medium is surely separated from the next paper sheet medium and after that, the pickup roller is normally rotated to deliver the uppermost paper sheet medium.
