An arrangement for dimming a load (2) via an electronic ballast (4), in which a dimmer (8) is connected to the phase line (L) of an AC voltage network, and on the output side is a circuited phase line (3) with a voltage (2) made available. The dimmer (8) has an encoding device (9) which modulates the specified brightness information on the load current of the switched phase line (3), and a decoder arranged on the input side near the ballast device, is joined on the input side to the switched phase line (3).
