<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for highly efficiently producing a high-purity 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane compound at a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane compound represented by formula (1) has a step for reacting phenols with glyoxal or a glyoxal derivative at 0-60°C in the presence of an acidic catalyst and ≥5 wt.% acetonitrile based on phenols.
