<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing particulateα-alumina having a highα-modification rate and a larger BET specific surface area. <P>SOLUTION: The particulateα-alumina is produced by firing an aluminum salt in the presence of a seed crystal. For example, it is fired at 690°C or higher. The aluminum salt is an inorganic aluminum salt, particularly, aluminum nitrate. The seed crystal is exemplified byα-alumina, diaspore, iron oxide, chromium oxide, or titanium oxide. The seed crystal has a BET specific surface area of at least 12 m<SP>2</SP>/g and is used in an amount of at least 1 pt. mass per 100 pts. mass total amount of the aluminum salt and the oxides of the metallic components of the seed crystal, the amounts being expressed in terms of the oxides of the metallic components. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
