<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator apparatus, more reducing the power consumption of a driving device. <P>SOLUTION: When a car 10 is loaded with the load under the half of the total load with a second driving device 3 stopped, the weight of a first balancing weight 11 is set so that the weight and the car 10 balance. The weight of the second balancing weight 12 is set so that the weight and the car 10 balance when the car 10 is loaded with the load 50 % of the total load with the first driving device 2 stopped.
