PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chromium-free surface treatment agent which can be used for surface-treating a galvanized product and has superior rust-preventing capability, particularly the capability for inhibiting the formation of white rust for a long time. SOLUTION: The surface treatment agent is mainly formed of an alcohol solution of an alkoxysilane oligomer with a weight-average molecular weight of 1,000 to 10,000, which has been prepared by hydrolyzing and condensation-polymerizing an alkoxysilane, and of which the concentration in the alcohol solution is 8 to 25 wt.% in silica terms. The surface treatment agent may also include a polyvinyl butyral resin soluble in alcohol, a silane coupling agent having a vinyl group and an epoxy group as a functional group, and an ultrafine powder of dispersion-treated titanium oxide as well, to further improve the rust-preventing capability.
