PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with the coating of a heat insulating material on an outer peripheral face of a pipe and to prevent the impairing of valve element opening controlling characteristic caused by the effect of atmospheric temperature of the circumference in a mechanical expansion valve connecting a pressure chamber at a diaphragm side and a temperature sensitive member by a tube such as a capillary tube. SOLUTION: In the expansion valve where the valve element is displaced by displacing the diaphragm 17 on the basis of pressure difference acting on both faces of the diaphragm 17, a control medium 25 generating the pressure in accordance with a refrigerant temperature by sensing the refrigerant temperature of a freezing cycle, is sealed in the temperature sensitive member 21, the temperature sensitive member 21 is connected with a pressure chamber 19 at one face side of the diaphragm 18 by the tube 23, and a pressure transferring substance 26 of low heat conductivity is sealed inside of the pressure chamber 19 and the tube 23.
