PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the improvement of operation ratio of a hot former, the reducing of defective ratio of a forged product and the secureness of accuracy. SOLUTION: An edge part detecting signal S1 is received from an edge detecting means 28 for bar material with an edge part treating control means 26 and the timing of the edge part treatment is predicted. Then, the timing of a lost hitting with dies according to the edge part treatment of the bar materials 10, 12 supplied in the hot former 16, is catched. The edge part treatment is performed based on an edge part treating information OR1 transmitted to a transfer-conveying device from the edge part treating control means 26. At the lost hitting time of a fixed die 18 and a movable die 20 according to this edge part treatment, a cooling liquid quantity limiting information OR2 is transmitted to a working control means 30 from the edge part treating means 26. Then, the supplying quantity into the fixed die 18 and the movable die 20 from a cooling liquid supplying means 24 is limited. Therefore, excess cooling of the fixed die 18 and the movable die 20, is prevented and the die temperature can be kept at not lower than the necessary temperature of the dies.
