The airbag, filled with gas generated in a specific device in case of an impact is provided with an inlet and at least one outlet. The pressure present at a particular time inside the airbag resulting in a specific level of rigidity acting on the body of the driver or passenger can be regulated by releasing some of the gas from the bag through one or more vents. The parameters of the crash as well as the data relating to the person involved are used by a control device for an adjustment of the pressure in order to provide a maximal rigidity immediately after the impact and a reduction in pressure for a more gentle support afterwards.
