<p>Disclosed is a stable optical device having uniform and wide-ranging fine polarization-reversed structures in a ferroelectric crystal. The optical device comprises a plurality of polarization-reversed regions (101) formed in an MgO:LiNbO3 substrate (100) and grooves (102) formed in the substrate surface between the polarization-reversed regions (101). The depth (T') of almost every polarization-reversed region (101) relative to the thickness (T) of the substrate satisfies the following relation: T' < T.</p>
