PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage converter using a matrix converter that directly converts a polyphase AC voltage to a single-phase AC voltage composed of a desired voltage and frequency. SOLUTION: The matrix converter 38 composed of 2x3 pieces of bidirectional switching elements is connected to LU1, LV1 and LW1 lines of U, V and W phases that connect a motor generator MG1 to an inverter 34. A three-phase AC voltage generated by the motor generator MG1 is converted to a commercial AC voltage Vab by the matrix converter 38, and outputted from a plug unit ACU.
