PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a general purpose IP communication unit capable of performing telephone conversation or communication of facsimile, or the like, by connecting it directly with an IP line without requiring a dedicated adapter for any provider. SOLUTION: The IP communication unit 1 performing communication through an IP line comprises an IP network interface 9 for connection with the IP line, a section 5 storing the setting information for connection corresponding to a plurality of providers, a switch 7 for selecting the setting information, and a setting information managing section 6 for reading out the setting information selected by the switch 7 from the setting information storage section 5 and performing initial setting for communication.
