A mobile terminal and an operating method therefor are provided. The mobile terminal has a fingerprint identification unit. The fingerprint identification unit operates in a fingerprint verification mode or a direction data read mode. In case direction data is generated, a movement of a mouse pointer, a movement of a screen, and a drawing operation are performed depending on the direction data.
