[Also in Group XXXI] In a method of making box-section frames for automobiles &c. from two or more sheet metal sections such as channel members 15, 16, Fig. 3, having two or more overlapping marginal portions 22 welded or riveted together, staggered holes 23, 24 are provided opposite the overlapping marginal portions for straight rectilinearly movable connecting tools such as welding electrodes 26, Fig. 4. In a modification the flanges 31, 33, Fig. 7, may form the vertical side walls of the frame, drain holes 39 being provided in the lower channel member 29. |
