740,280. Chains; hinge pins. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. June 25, 1954 [June 26, 1953], No. 17840/53. Classes 24 and 65 (2). A connecting pin for a chain has two parts held in eccentric relationship to each other by rubber or like plastic material bonded between them. In the form shown, the pin comprises a head 1 and a shank 2 of such diameter that it is a sliding fit in the chain links 3, 4 and 5 to be connected. A second short length of shank 6, tapered for easy entry into the links, is fitted eccentrically over a rubber member 9 which lies around a central axial extension of the main shank 2. The protruding lips 7 and 8 of both shank portions 2 and 6 are bevelled to give a lead into the holes in the links and the axial extension of the main shank 2 gives a metal-tometal contact with the shank portion 6 to enable the pin to be driven out from the tapered end. In an alternative form the main shank 2 and the tapered portion 6 are united by a cylindrical plug of bonding material lying partly in an axial hole in the main shank 2 and partly in an eccentric hole in the portion 6. In a further form the two shank portions are connected eccentrically end-to-end by an intermediate layer of bonding material. |
