A frame conversion method capable of displaying a moving picture of smooth motion. There is provided a memory (16) into which frame image data of the NTSC method is written. A memory controller (14) is provided for extracting image data of an odd number field and an even number field from the memory (16) for each odd number field period and even number field period in the frame cycle of the PAL method. An interpolation processing circuit (76) is provided for mixing the image data of an odd number field extracted by the memory controller (14) and the image data of the next odd number field with a predetermined ratio and outputting the mixed result as image data in the odd number fields of the frame cycle of the PAL method. Moreover, the interpolation processing circuit (76) mixes the image data of an even number field extracted with the image data of the next even number field with a predetermined ratio and outputs the mixed result as image data in the even number fields of the frame cycle of the PAL method.
