An artificial surface, laid on ground or concrete, consists of paved slabs of a supple synthetic material, 30 - 60 mm thick, one and preferably two square metres in area, weighing less that 50 kg/sq m, and capable of an elastic deformation of at least 5 mm and preferably at least 10 mm under the weight of a horse.
