In a papermaking process a wet paper web is sandwiched between an upper dewatering belt and a lower dewatering belt as it passed through a press gap formed by two press drums. One of the dewatering belts is smoother than the other. One of the dewatering belts is less air permeable than the other. The dewatering belt thickness is from 7 to 11 dtex.
