<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for forming purified water or an apparatus for forming softened water in which an ion exchange resin is used, a chemical and salt are not used for regenerating the ion exchange resin, the amount of water required for regenerating the ion exchange resin is reduced and consequently the cost required for regenerating the ion exchange resin is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises a pair of electrodes being an anode and a cathode and, between the anode and the cathode, in the following order from the anode side, an anode chamber, an anion exchange resin chamber, a bi-polar film obtained by sticking an anion exchange film to a cation exchange film, a cation exchange resin chamber and a cathode chamber. The apparatus furthermore has mechanism that water or salt water is electrolyzed on the bi-polar film by applying voltage between the anode and the cathode, an anion exchange resin in the anion exchange resin chamber or a cation exchange resin in the cation exchange resin chamber is regenerated by the produced OH<SP>-</SP>ion or H<SP>+</SP>ion and the ion-exchanged ion by the regeneration is discharged to the anode chamber or the cathode chamber by the power of the applied voltage. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
