<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy and inexpensive method for producing a pyridinecarboxylic acid amide by the isomerization of a pyridinecarboxyaldoxime without using a halogenating agent (methanesulfonic acid chloride) harmful to the environment and having high toxicity, preventing the by-production of a large amount of contaminated halogen alkali metal salt and enabling the recovery and reuse of the catalyst after reaction. <P>SOLUTION: A pyridinecarboxylic acid amide is produced by isomerizing a pyridinecarboxyaldoxime in a multi-phase solvent in the presence of a water-soluble transition metal complex containing a hydrophilic phosphine compound as a ligand or a mixture of a hydrophilic phosphine compound and a transition metal compound.
