PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sequential scanning conversion method providing high sharpness independently of scenes at all times by solving a task of production of a sequential scanning conversion image with a sense of incongruity caused by a big difference from the sharpness between processing of moving pictures and processing of still pictures switched depending on the scenes in the sequential scanning conversion method for converting interlace scanning images into sequential scanning images. SOLUTION: The sequential scanning conversion method determines whether a picture is a still picture or a moving picture, produces interpolation pixels between fields in the case of the still picture, and extracts a high frequency component of a received interlace picture in the case of the moving picture, detects edges from the high frequency component, and produces interpolation pixels by frequency analysis and edge composition so that a sense of high sharpness can be obtained independently of the scenes at all times.
