PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein an electron orbit tends to run off from a desired orbit near a contacting portion of a spacer and a rear panel or a front panel. SOLUTION: In the method of an image forming apparatus including: a first substrate 3119 having an image forming member arranged on it; a second substrate 1011 having an electron emission element arranged on it; and a spacer 20 arranged between the first and second substrates, a spacer substrate is formed by processing corner portions of a spacer matrix prepared into the flat shape or the circular arc shape, a solution in which conductive material is dispersed or dissolved is applied to an end portion of the spacer substrate including a taper or circular arc portion, the liquid applied to the spacer substrate is heated, an electrode 25 is formed in the end portion of the spacer substrate, and the electrode formed in the spacer substrate body is made to abut to the first substrate and the second substrate.
