A base material for fertigation, which comprises a block prepared by pressing the sarcocarp of palm nearly perpendicularly to the direction of the arrangement of its fibers, followed by cutting, and fibers and a powder derived from the sarcocarp of palm, and preferably contains a carbonized product from a plant, characterized in that a sample of the base material exhibits a content of tannin of 1 mass % or less and a content of iron of 0.01 to 0.10 mass % in terms of Fe2O3 after it is allowed to stand at a temperature of 20 and a humidity of 50 % for 3 days; and a mat for fertigation, characterized in that it comprises the base material for fertigation and a sack comprising a non-woven fabric using a polyolefin fiber for packing the base material. The base material for fertigation can be produced by aerating a base material for fertigation having the above-mentioned composition in a water tank containing a metallic iron for a period of 12 hours or more, to remove tannin. |
