A fuel cell system (10) is disclosed, with a fuel cell (11), which comprises an anode chamber (12), with an inlet (13) and an outlet (14), for a fuel, for example hydrogen and a cathode chamber (16), with an inlet (17) and an outlet (18), for an oxidising agent, for example oxygen or air. A device (20) for generation/preparation of fuel is provided for generation of the fuel, which is connected on the outlet side (22) thereof, to the fuel inlet (13) and on the inlet side (21), by means of a fuel-precursor inlet line (31), with a fuel-precursor tank (30), in which, for example methanol, gasoline or similar are stored as starting material for the fuel. According to the invention, the fuel is produced under high pressure, in order to be able to keep the individual components of the fuel cell (10) as small as possible, whilst achieving good heat transfer. A particular pressure and/or temperature level of the fuel for the fuel cell (11) is achieved, whereby at least one pump device (32, 35) is arranged in the fuel-precursor inlet line(31) and at least one pressure regulator (40, 41) is arranged in the fuel inlet (13) and/or the fuel outlet (14). Furthermore, further pressure regulators (42, 43, 44, 45, 46) may be installed between individual components of the fuel cell system (10). |
