PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiping method of a functional liquid droplet discharging head which can suppress useless consumption of a wiping sheet as much as possible without the wiping capability of a nozzle face damaged, and to provide a wiping device. SOLUTION: The wiping device 233 wipes nozzle faces 87 of a plurality of functional liquid droplet discharging heads 72 at a time by a wiping sheet 281by moving the functional liquid droplet discharging heads 72 each having a large number of discharging nozzles arrayed in a sub scanning direction relatively to a head unit 41 installed on a head plate 73 shifted in both the sub scanning direction and a main scanning direction .
