PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic proximity switch which shows a stable on/off state even when a detection object magnet is located in the vicinity of a boundary of a detection area, and is easy to machine. SOLUTION: This magnetic proximity switch includes a case 1, a reed switch 2 fixed to the case 1, the detection object magnet 4 separately mounted outside the case 1, and an auxiliary magnet 5 mounted in the case 1 for applying magnetic force to contacts 2d of the reed switch 2 in response to the position of the magnet 4, and the contacts 2d of the reed switch 2 are brought into contact with and separated from each other in response to the magnetic force generated between the contacts 2d of the reed switch 2 by the auxiliary magnet 5. The auxiliary magnet 5 is moved according to the position of the magnet 4 between a first stable position for separating the contacts 2d of the reed switch 2 from each other and a second position for bringing the contacts 2d of the reed switch 2 into contact with each other so as to change the distance between the contacts 2d of the reed switch 2.
