A light guide assembly directs light from a source to form an elongate strip. The assembly has two spaced plates (2,4) arranged with reflective surfaces in juxtaposition to define an enclosure with a light source side and a display side. An array of mirrors (8) is arranged between the plates (2,4) on either side of an axis extending between the sides of the enclosure, with mirrored surfaces facing outward relative thereto. The surfaces are inclined relative to the axis to divert light admitted at the source side outwardly relative to the axis towards the display side of the enclosure.
