摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a zinc oxide ultrafine particle or the like having a quantum size effect. <P>SOLUTION: The method is for manufacturing an ultrafine particle material by making a metal oxide semiconductor into an ultrafine particle, wherein a solution prepared by dissolving a metal salt by refluxing in a solvent is mixed with a solution prepared by similarly dissolving a catalyst in a solvent to hydrolyze the metal salt, thus synthesizing an ultrafine particle of the metal oxide with an diameter of 1-5 nm. For example, a solution prepared by dissolving a zinc salt by refluxing in a solvent is mixed with a solution similarly prepared by dissolving a catalyst in a solvent to hydrolyze the zinc salt, thus giving an ultrafine particle of zinc oxide with a diameter of≤5 nm. The method wherein the concentration of the zinc salt solution is 0.01-0.5 M and the method wherein the zinc salt solution is mixed with the catalyst solution at -80 to 80°C are also provided. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
