<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus in which a viewing angle of a display screen is electrically controlled. <P>SOLUTION: In the display apparatus, an optical device is disposed between a transmissive display element 3 and a surface light source 1, wherein the surface light source 1 is a side light type light source equipped with a transparent light guide plate 102 with fine projections and recessions on the surface thereof, light emitted from the surface light source 1 is provided with a directivity to a specified direction, the optical device 2 reversibly switches between a light ray scattering state and a light ray transmitting state, and by setting the optical device 2 to the light ray scattering state, the display viewing angle of the transmissive display element 3 is made wider than that in the light ray transmitting state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
