<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable stable volume reduction of surplus sludge and improvement of volume reduction performance in the volume reduction of the surplus sludge using chlorine dioxide without exerting a bad influence upon the treatment capacity of a biological treatment tank. <P>SOLUTION: In a method for reducing the volume of the surplus sludge by solubilizing the surplus sludge generated when organic waste water is biologically treated in the biological treatment tank 16 and returning it to the biological treatment tank 16, the surplus sludge is solubilized with chlorine dioxide in a solubilizing tank 36, and then the solubilized surplus sludge is aerated in an aeration tank 38 to be returned to the biological treatment tank 16. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
