<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To organize an external storage device including a flash memory which is not restricted by the permission limit of an OS. <P>SOLUTION: The external storage device comprises: a communication interface to be connected to a computer system; the nonvolatile flash memory for storing data; a controller for controlling the writing/reading of the data relative to the flash memory; an output means for outputting a signal to allow the computer system to recognize that a previously known disk apparatus is connected when the communication interface is connected; and an automatic execution program storing means for storing an automatic execution program to be executed by the computer system which recognizes the connection of the disk apparatus.
