PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal processor which prevents a user from being confused about whether or not viewing high-quality pictures in D2 or higher when a connecting connector not connected to a high-quality picture output terminal whereas the output format of video signals to be outputted from the high-quality picture output terminal is set up. SOLUTION: When a detector circuit 2 outputs a detection signal showing that a connecting connector is not connected to a high quality picture output terminal such as D-terminal or component terminal, a microcomputer 3 outputs a video decoder output control signal to a video decoder 4 for always outputting video signals in a format D1, irrespective of the setting contents of a menu function or a switch circuit 1, and an OSD display control signal to an OSD superposer circuit 5 for informing a user with an on-screen display indication that the high quality picture output terminal should be connected with a monitor TV for enabling the setting of D2 or higher.
