PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To objectively evaluate about an image formed on a medium by an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: An image formed on a medium by an image forming unit is read at a position behind a fixing device by a CIS (Contact Image Sensor) 50. The read data is passed to an image analysis unit 92, and an analysis region having the conveyance direction as its short side and the longitudinal direction of the CIS as its long side is taken out. The image analysis unit 92 computes an average value of a value of pixels located in a line along the short side for pixels in the analysis region, and constructs an average value sequence (image information table). The image analysis unit 92 applies wavelet transformation to the average value sequence, and multiplies the result by a VIF (Visual Transfer Function). A maximum value Wmax, its position bmax, its period amax, and an average value Wave are determined from values obtained as the result.
