PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint for steel sheet piles, which dispenses with temporary welding of a protective plate, and to provide a method of mounting the joint. SOLUTION: The joint for the steel sheet piles is formed like a halved steel sheet pile, and formed of a pair of plate portions (2) each consisting of a plate-like base portion (3), a rising portion (4), and a joint portion (5) for connecting to the adjacent steel sheet pile. The base portions are linearly arranged across a predetermined interval and the erect portions are located on the same side of the linearly arranged base portions. Then a flexible water cutoff member (6) made of rubber, a synthetic resin, or the like, is fixed to the pairing base portions on the side where the erect portion of each base portion is located, so as to bridge the base portions, by means of flexible water cutoff member fixing means (7). Further, cover sheets (10, 11) formed of a material which is proof against damage in spite of contact with the ground into which the joint is driven, are arranged on both sides of the plate portions (2) in a manner covering the flexible water cutoff members, and fixed to at least one of the flexible water cutoff member fixing means and the flexible water cutoff member so that relative displacement between the pairing plate members is accommodated if a predetermined force is applied thereto.
