PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for controlling thermal-crown with which the thermal-deformation of a hearth roll can be prevented and also, the thermal-crown control can be performed without lowering the thermal efficiency. SOLUTION: In the thermal-crown controlling apparatus 2, by which the temperature difference in the axial direction of the hearth roll, is reduced by ejecting cooling medium or heating medium onto the peripheral surface of the hearth roll 1 assembled in a continuous annealing furnace, a relation among the barrel length W of the hearth roll, the minimum width B of a steel strip and the length L of the nozzle 4 set at both sides in the barrel length of the hearth roll 1 and for inserting the cooling medium or the heating medium, is made in the range of 200≤L≤(W-B)/2 +100 and the nozzle length L is divided in the axial direction of the hearth roll and the divided lengthΔL is made in the range of 50≤ΔL≤200.
