The defibrillator has a housing of metal or plastic and comprises an automatic or manual emergency alert, function monitoring and locating device either inside or outside the housing. The emergency alert, function monitoring and locating device is preferably a removable or fixedly installed UMTS/GSM/GPRS unit which can make a call to a rescue service, doctor or hospital and may also optionally transmit biometric data of the patient.
