The method involves monitoring pressure in a medium that cools down and temperature of a heat carrying medium e.g. water, for detecting freezing of a liquefier (2). Heat pump circulation is switched from reversal cycle mode of operation to heat pump operation, and hot gas is fed to a vaporizer (4) through a bypass, if the liquefier freezes. A magnet valve gets switched when the gas is passed to the vaporizer.
