<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of suppressing occurrence of a bright line by preventing influence of one defective organic EL element from extending to other normal organic EL elements when the defective organic EL element is present in a passive matrix type organic EL display. <P>SOLUTION: A diode 35a connected to the high-potential side of a changeover switch 36a and a capacitor 34a connected to a low-potential side in parallel are provided between the changeover switch 36a in a scanning driver 3 and a positive power source 31, and a changeover switch 33a is provided between the connection point between the diode 35a and capacitor 34a, and the positive power source 31. When there is a defective organic EL element 13 on a scanning line 5b, a capacitor 34b is short-circuited to a ground point on the side of a changeover switch 22a through the defective organic EL element 13 etc., and then not charged.
