PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-speed and compact superscalar microprocessor. SOLUTION: The superscalar microprocessor is configured to execute one or more instructions out of a program order. The microprocessor includes a superscalar register renaming circuit for simultaneously assigning an address to each of one or more instructions; a plurality of functional units for executing instructions out of the program order; a buffer for storing execution results of instructions, wherein the address assigned to each instruction indicates a location in the buffer where an execution result is to be stored; a register array including a plurality of array locations referenced to provide execution results of instructions that have been retired; a retirement control block for determining whether each executed instruction can be retired; and an instruction retirement unit for simultaneously retiring a group of instructions that can be retired by simultaneously associating an execution result of each instruction in the group of instructions that can be retired with array locations in the register array.
