PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid coating applicator which reduces evaporation of coating liquid left in a long-time unattended state in a liquid holding member for holding the coating liquid in a space defined by a roller and the applicator per se, and prevents leakage of the liquid from the liquid holding member irrespective of the position of the applicator, and to provide an ink-jet recording device. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the liquid coating applicator, when the coating liquid is recovered from the liquid holding member 2001 to a storage tank 3003, a changeover valve 3006 is changed over to connect between an atmospheric communicating port 3013 and a tube 3012, and then a pump 3007 is driven, whereby the coating liquid remaining in the liquid holding member 2001 and channels is recovered to the storage tank 3003.
