PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an organic EL device forming an organic EL layer by discharging and applying an organic EL material by an ink-jet method on a substrate, with uniform thickness of an organic EL thin film between pixels within effective optical area and in respective pixels. SOLUTION: The organic EL device is formed by forming a dummy area having dummy bank groups 43 having shape and pitches same as that of display pixels 42 around a display pixel area, applying an organic EL material ink composition 41 also on the dummy area, applying the above composition on the effective optical area after applying it on the dummy area when starting the application of the composition, and by applying the composition on the dummy area after applying it on the effective optical area when finishing the application of the composition.
