PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove, for purification, a solid component contained in a highly viscous liquid, particularly a transition metal complex and an adsorbent component contained in a vinyl polymer produced by atom transfer radical polymerization, safely and efficiently to a very low content. SOLUTION: In a polymer manufacturing method which filters off and removes a solid component by the press filtration of a polymer containing the solid component dispersed therein, the solid component separated by filtration on a horizontally arranged wire gauze filter material is discharged by vibration. It is particularly preferable that the polymer is the vinyl polymer produced by the atom transfer radical polymerization of the vinyl monomer in the presence of the transition metal complex as a polymerization catalyst and that the solid component is at least one selected from the group consisting of the transition metal complex, a synthetic hydrotalcite, aluminum silicate, magnesium oxide, and a potassium salt.
