PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a highly cleanable membrane on the surface of a substrate such as glass. SOLUTION: A highly cleanable membrane composed of a silica membrane containing sodium and aluminum is formed on the surface of a substrate. The sodium- and aluminum-containing silica membrane formed on the substrate surface is stable and exhibits an excellent hydrophilicity by the action of sodium and aluminum present in the silica membrane. Thus, high cleanability (underwater oil-repellency) and excellent fog resistance are imparted even when cleaning is repeated after the beginning of production. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
