<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a performance of reading information signals concerning different kinds of disk-like recording media without cost increase. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup is provided with two or more light emitting elements 9a, 9b, 10a for emitting laser light of about 405 nm, about 660 nm, or about 780 nm wavelengths corresponding to each disk-like recording medium toward the two or more different kinds of disk-like recording media 100, an objective lens 18 for condensing each laser light on recording surfaces of the disk-like recording media, and a light receiving element 21 for receiving the laser light emitted from the light emitting elements, and is characterized in that an elliptic beam spot is formed by condensing the laser light on the recording surfaces of the disk-like recording media through the objective lens 18, so that the major axis of the laser light beam spot of about 660 nm wavelength is turned in the direction of 45° to 60° to the tangential direction of the disk-like recording medium, and the major axis of the laser light beam spot of about 405 nm wavelength is turned in the direction of 25 to 45 to the tangential direction of the disk-like recording medium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
