<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform deceleration control without providing uncomfortableness to a driver when one's own vehicle travels on a curve or the like. <P>SOLUTION: When the driver does not perform accelerator operation, target vehicle speed V<SP>*</SP>is calculated based on an estimated road surface friction coefficientμ. When the driver performs the accelerator operation and lateral acceleration Yg is generated in the own vehicle, the target vehicle speed V<SP>*</SP>is calculated based on the lateral acceleration Yg detected by an acceleration sensor 15.
